Alextrek invites you into the wildest adventure that can happen to you within Europe! Welcome to the Albanian Alps! "Bjeshkët e Nemuna" , perhaps few know is the Albanian name more known as "Prokletjie" (Prokletije - Montenegro name) - The mountain, located in 3 countries - Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo. The biggest part is in Albania, there is also the highest peak - Jezerce peak (2,694 meters). Although lower than the native Pirin and Rila mountains, as you will see (if only the pictures) it is incomparably more alpine and raw. However, its biodiversity is amazing. The climat is totally influented also of the Adriatic sea that is a straight line of 40km (west)! This is the most serious reason of many rains that poured there and abrupt climate changes! Another characteristic of the mountain is its rock falls - it is not surprising to hear zipping free rock falls on the opposite slope, as avalanches pouring in the high mountains! :) On the Albanian territory for the protection of nature and biodiversity are two separate protected areas - national parks "Valbona" and "Teti"! Right there we will head to!
Start from Sofia /Vasil Levski stadium/ at 6:00 o'clock. A transfer via Macedonia and Albania to "Valbona" NP. /8-10hours/
At the foot of the mountain (Bairam Curri town) we will do the last food-shopping
A walk around Valbona and accommodate in the hotel
A trek from Valbona to Valbona col and the Lakes glacial valley (7-8h). We will pass through the village Kokaj and above us will rise the sharp peaks Zat, Roshit and Etes! In the distance stands the highest albanian peak Maya Jezerce peak! After the col we descend diagonally to reach the Lake glacial valley - perhaps the most beautiful in the mountains, where we can stay for 2 days. We camp under dozens of huge and steep peaks, rising about 1,000 meters above us! :)
Daily walk - 8 hours. Elevation up - 1100m /5h/; Elevation down 300m /3h/
The day is dedicated to climb the leader Maya Jezerce (optional climbing, especially in condescension of Mother Nature). If this climbing is not included in the excursion, the trekking in Albania can be shortened to 6 days! The climb is dotted with magnificent views of the entire mountain (in good weather). It goes a long and firn snow to reach the pass under Maya Jezerce. The climb to the top is a normal difficulty. In the afternoon we return to the camp near the lakes.
Daily walk - 7 hours. Elevation up - 1000m /4h/; Elevation down 1000m /3h/
Our fourth day will start with a climbing to another col under Maya Boyas peak. Then go down to the valley Ronitses. In front of us will spread out quite different panoramas and titanic peaks, led by the chain Karanfilite!!! After going down the we will head to Lake Peyes what we will call it with a mysterious name "Waffle's lake"! Later on we will know why! :) The landscape of the waffle's lake is amazingly beautiful and we fix the last camp outside civilization! For dessert we climb to the ridge and see crimson sunset!
Daily walk - 6 hours. Elevation up - 500m /2h/; Elevation down 600m /4h/
From Waffle's lake we climb for a while to reach to Pejes col, from which we will descend to the National park "Theth" where in the bottom of the valley is located the village Thethi. Surrounded by unspoiled Albanian manner of living and good people we will be accommodated in a local guest house and will try local cuisine! :)
Daily walk - 3,5 hours. Elevation up - 90m /0,5h/; Elevation down 1000m /3h/
The penultimate day of our Albanian adventure will begin with a new climbing just to reach the ridge below Valbona peak. After taht we are going to descend long, sloping down to Valbona, where we will find the bus, waiting for us! Another night in Valbona for the end of this tremendous adventure!
Daily walk - 6 hours. Elevation up - 1100m /3h/; Elevation down 1000m /3h/
The last day we will go down in the civilization and will do a short tour of Tirana on the road to Sofia. The travel and tour will take us about 12 hours!
