Our goal this time will be one of the most outstanding, imposing, beautiful and massive peaks in Bulgaria - Kamenitsa /2822m/. We leave early in the morning at 7a.m. In three hours we are at the Yane Sandanski chalet and start the hike. Our walk uphill to the Begovitsa lodge is a warm-up which takes some 1.5 hours. There we put our snowshoes on and start the trek to Begovishka valley. We have lunch surrounded by the Kuklite, Zaba, Kamenitsa and Yalovarnika peaks. Kamenitsa and Yalovarnika loom large as mountains within the mountain, inaccessible with sharp ridges and snow cornices. Our warm-up for tomorrow includes an energising hike to the Kuklensko lake, which is much easier on winter snow than in summer when we have to elbow our way through the creeping pine.

Sunday morning is ripe with high hopes. The morning walk is easier, because snow is still frozen. Without even noticing, we have walked to the Begovishki ridge and from there we take a northeast turn to climb to the edge which connects it with Yalovarnika. Little by little we ascend the peak. We cannot get enough of the views. Tevno lake is beneath us. Standing on one of the most beautiful and coveted peaks not only in Bulgaria! We can hardly keep our emotions in check.

And there are some more surprises left - on our way back we will replace the cold winter wonderland for a hot mineral water pool. :)
