Welcome to the Pirin National Park. Our gathering point is the Vassil Levski National Stadium, at 8.00 a.m. We are southbound to the village of Pirin, nestling in the southeastern foot of the Pirin mountain. An 1.5-hour hike takes us to the Pirin lodge where we have lunch and prepare for a surprise. The surprise is a heavenly gem off the beaten track - the Manenko lake, cuddling between two colossuses - the Yalovarnika and Kamenitsa peaks! Few lucky ones have had the chance to visit this awe-inspiring lake. The hike will take about five hours, and it's only a warm-up.
Elevation gain/loss - 700m in both gain and loss.
After breakfast, we head to the Demirkapiyska valley and shortly afterwards we take a turn to the Kornishki crest which takes 3 hours in total. Every step uphill offers us new stunning views from this most unusual perspective. The climax of the day is the Gorno Kornishko Lake - located between the main Pirin ridge and the Yanuzov ridge. Then we go up to the Yanuzov ridge where we have great fun! On our way back along the valley we are in a hurry for our cold beer. Hike: 8 hours
Elevation gain/loss - 1150m in both gain and loss
The third day of our wild adventure offers the longest hike. Along the Demirkapiyska valley we reach the emerald Argirovo Lake. We catch an amazing view of Kamenitsa peak, beating even that from the Tevno Lake. After a well-deserved rest by the lake, we go up to the Chengelchal peak and from there traverse the sharp ridge between Dzhano and Chengelchal. The panorama makes us feel as if we are in the Alps. Then we descend to the Kamenishki lakes, one of the most zealously kept secrets of the mountain, where we have lunch. Hike - 10 hours.
Elevation gain/loss - 1250m in both gain and loss
We have breakfast, coffee and head to the Tevno lake. The trail takes us to another Pirin gem - the Mitrevo lake! A remarkable place, surrounded by steep fabled peaks! This is just to whet your appetite! Then we go up to the Kralev Dvor right col. Here we leave our backpacks to climb a peak of our choice. The options are Malka Kamenitsa, Kamenitsa, Kralev Dvor, among others! At the end of the day, we find ourselves at the Tevno Lake shelter to enjoy the sunset! Hike (without the peaks): 5 hours
Elevation gain/loss (without the peaks) – up 1050m; down 200m
In the morning we take a surreal hike to the Mozgovishki ridge. We leave our backpacks near the Chairski lakes and climb the dented crest. The views are delightful - Pirin surrounds us in all its majesty! We go back to our backpacks and in 2.5 hours we reach the enchanted Spano Pole shelter, where we are to spend the next 4 days in timelessness! Hike - 7-8 hours.
Elevation gain/loss – up 300m; down 550m
In the morning after the splendid night, we take our time to get ready for a mesmerising day. Today we are to visit the Georgiiski lakes and the offbeat Spanopolski lakes! We start with an easy hike across the meadows. But looking for wilder emotions, we go down to the lakes. We are to uncover a hidden lake and the incomparable Georgiitsa peak, whose secret will be revealed by the mountain guide. Then we go back to the ridge to discover the mysterious Spanopolski lakes.
Hike - 8 hours
The climax in our Pirin adventure is kept for the seventh day - the ascent of the Bashliyski and Baderishki Chukari! The views atop are breath-taking, and the adventures along the edge between the two peaks and the descent to the charming Bashliysko lake are unforgettable! The shores of the heavenly lake will offer us fairy-tale experiences. Then we take an easy downhill hike along the Bashliitsa river to reach Spano Pole. Hike: 8 hours.
Elevation gain/loss - 800m in both gain and loss
Our Pirin journey is coming to an end, but the emotions do not subside! Today we head to some of the most apocryphal lakes in Pirin - the Tipitski lakes. We start from the divine Bashliiska glacial valley and in no time we climb the ridge of Tipitsite. We go down to the Upper Tipitsko lake where we are lost for words at the imposing views of towering peaks. This is delirium for our soul and a dream come true. We take a different trail to go back to Spano Pole to spend the last night with the cool lodge keepers over red wine. Hike - 8 hours.
Elevation gain/loss - 750m in both gain and loss.
Last day :(
Our last morning in Pirin is somewhat sad and sluggish. We have a farewell hike to a stunning lake in the Malko Spano Pole glacial valley nestling in the foot of the Bashliiski and Banderishki Chukari. Our fairy tale is coming to its end but we are aware that Pirin has enchanted us forever and we'll keep coming back to get more and more of its serum. We go back to the shelter to take our backpacks and in 2.5 hours we are in the minibus. To bottle up our sadness we go to a mineral pool.
Hike: 5 hours
Elevation gain/loss - 300m up; 900m down.
