We get up early and gather in front of the Vassil Levski National Stadium at 8:00 a.m. to set off to the towns of Batak and Dospat. En route, we marvel at some fabulous dams. By noon we are at the village of Borino, where we are to spend the night. We have a hike along the new trail of the Devil's Bridge! We have a 2-3-hour hike, crossing narrow bridges and meandering by the cliffs of the Chitak Dere river. In the afternoon, we have a walk to the Videnitsa peak nearby, to enjoy marvellous views and find traces of an ancient sanctuary.
Hiking time: 6 hours
The second day will be full of emotions and shots of adrenaline! We have a drive to the village of Yagodina and have a walk to the Eagle's Eye viewpoint (1.5 hours), overlooking the 700m cliffs above the Buynovsko gorge. It feels like flying an airplane. Once we go down, we take our minibus to another gorge - the Trigrad Gorge, where we find the climax of the day - the Haramiya cave. We need some guts and skills to climb to its dark mouth. Local guides will provide safety ropes for the group and will make a child's play out of this thrilling experience. Our adventure will continue for about 4 or 5 hours. Later this afternoon, we go to the Trigradski Skalli lodge. We can hardly keep our emotions in check after this crazy day.
We are preparing for an exceptional day. We have a short drive to the villages of Shiroka Laka and Gela, where we start our hike. In one hour and a half, we reach the Lednitsata lodge, where we have a rest and a snack. Then we hike to the Lednitsata cave (30 min.) and then take the fairy-tale trail to the village of Mugla. We will enjoy typical Rhodope mountain meadows, lush greenery and freshness! We are to spend the night in a guesthouse in our favourite Mugla. We enjoy the delicious local potato pie, called patatnik. We also have a walk along the enchanted Kazandzhi gully, full of emerald cascades and waterfalls.
Hiking time: 6-7 hours
Yet another adventure is awaiting us - the hike to the Chairski lakes! :) The hike there and back to Mugla will take 5-6 hours and will be another landmark in our spiritual journey across the mountains!
We are back at Mugla for the delicious dinner.
Hiking time: 5-6 hours
On our way back to the village of Gela, we ascend the greatest Rhodope peak - Orpheus (second in height, only two meters lower, but much more scenic than Golyam Perelik). Afterwards we take the minibus to Smolyan, but before reaching the town we stop over for a hike along the Nevyastata (the Bride) trail. We can even opt for a via ferrata! For participants willing to give it a try we'll bring climbing gear. Emotions are guaranteed! We spend the night in a hotel in Smolyan.
Hiking time: 6 hours
Day 6 is dedicated to cultural tourism and sanctuaries! We visit the Devil's Bridge - an ancient Thracian bridge connecting the Aegean Sea and Thrace. After lunch we go to the Eagle Rocks - a Thracian sanctuary nearby. Afterwards we have a drive to our favourite part of the Rhodope mountains - Dobrostan! We spend the night at an amazing guesthouse equipped with a mantelpiece, kitchen and BBQ.
Hiking time: 4 hours
Day 7 is booked for the Chervenata Stena reserve (the Red Wall). We will hike in the reserve to see some of the orchids it is famous for. We visit the Ahmetova Dupka cave (Ahmet's hole) and climb the scenic Popa peak!
Hiking time: 5 hours
After a short transfer to the village of Mostovo, we have a hike to Krastova Gora (the Holy Cross Forest) and Karadzhov Kamak (Karadzhov's Rock), one of the most mesmerising Thracian sanctuaries. It is a magical and humbling experience. Especially if you dare to climb the steep chute beneath the overhanging rock and look at the other side! Enchanted by this greatest of Thracian sanctuaries, we continue our hike and return to Mostovo through Krastova Gora. In the evening we are back at the lovely cottage in Dobrostan.
Hiking time: 5 hours
The emotions of our hike peak at the breathtaking Slivovdolsko Padalo (the Slivov Dol Waterfall). But before that the guide has prepared a pleasant surprise for us - a mineral pool. Then we go to the Sveta Petka Monastery near Asenovgrad. Overwhelmed by emotions and spirituality at the Slivovdolsko Padalo, we don't feel like leaving the beauties of nature. Still we take our way back to Sofia, with batteries more recharged than ever.
