The Mediterranean pride - Corsica - the kingdom of ruthless rocky mountains, mouflons, mesmerizing waterfalls, enchanted lakes, phenomenal seashores and the birthplace of Napoleon! A 7-day hike along most of the legendary GR20 footpath and tons of other surprises! Please note that these treks require substantial trekking experience in view of the serious elevation gains, rocky terrain and duration of 7 or 8 hrs a day.

Corsica is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily, Sardinia and Cyprus), but it certainly beats them in terms of mountains! The island’s highest point is Monte Cinto (Monte Cintu) - 2706 m, and its mountain horst rises so impressively above the sea that it mesmerises even the most seasoned mountaineers! Incredible ridges, precipices, lush greenery, charming lakes, beautiful waterfalls and flamboyant biodiversity are in the focus of our journey. We offer two options in the treks (2 parallel itineraries) – a purely trekking programme along the ridges and an easy-going one – with rent-a-car and a mix of mountain hikes, sightseeing, seaside views, etc.

Itinerary:

Day 1

A flight to Corsica (capital Ajaccio) via Nice (2 flights with different airlines). Transfer to the starting point for the trek (Vizzavona) and overnight stay there.

Day 2

Vizzavona – L’Onda Refuge /7 hrs/. Elevation gain/loss - 1220m up and 710m down. The hike starts in a wonderful forest, and in less than an hour Corsica starts unveiling its surprises - a series of great waterfalls win our hearts to welcome us. We go gradually uphill, as we have to gain 1000 m in elevation. The meandering trail takes us to the lodge where we spend the night.

Day 3

L’Onda Refuge - Petra Piana Refuge /5.30 hrs/. Elevation gain/loss: 890m up and 490m down. After a steeper start to gain 300 or 400 m, the trail gets easier along the ridge. Then we have to gradually go downhill to reach our destination.

Day 4

Petra Piana Refuge - Manganu Refuge /6hrs/. Elevation gain/loss: 590m up and 830m down. En route we marvel at the most beautiful lakes in the mountain. We ascend a couple of peaks and on top of one of them we see no less than 7 lakes. Charge your camera batteries as this day is dedicated to lake views.

Day 5

Manganu Refuge - Tighjettu Refuge /12hrs/. Elevation gain/loss: 1260m up and 1250m down. This day offers us the longest but easiest hike for the whole mountain trip in Corsica. We descend into the forest belt and meander up and down for the first 3 hours until we reach the Verghju pass. For the first time since our start, we will cross an asphalt road and get in touch with the "outside world"! ;-) This will be for a short time, because after the pass we will enter the rocky "jungle" of GR20 again! After another 4-5 hours of wilderness we pass by one of the lodges along the trail. In another 4 quite rocky hours we get to the desired destination.

Day 6

Tighjettu Refuge - Asko Stagnu Refuge /8hrs/. Elevation gain/loss: 1000m up and 1220m down. Today we will climb the highest peak on the island of Corsica - Monte Cinto. Its 2706 m, uphill push and rocky terrain promise strong emotions! The detour to the peak will mean at least another 1 hour above the usual 8 hrs for the day. The descent to Asko Stagnu will be quite interesting and unforgettable! A day to remember that will bring some of the most stunning views of the mountain, and a lot of adrenaline.

Day 7

Asco Stagnu Refuge - Ortu di Piobbu Refuge /10hrs/. Elevation gain/loss: 1560m up and 1570m down. The last longish and busy day will still offer us an array of views and hikes. An uphill start for the day, after which we will reach a small pond and rest. We will have lunch at a lodge on the way. In the afternoon we will take the last serious uphill section for the whole stay on the island (900m up and 780m down).

Day 8

Ortu di Piobbu Refuge - Calenzana /5 hrs/. Elevation gain/loss: 60m up and 1360m down. Hotel stay.

Day 9

The special attraction of the journey - a train trip from Calvi to Ajaccio - an exciting experience across a unique landscape, tunnels, viaducts over precipices - an unforgettable day! Overnight stay in a hotel in Ajaccio.

Day 10

Flights via Nice to Sofia.

Reservation for participation and payment:

• The registration should be done latest at 15.05.2016 with an advance payment of the half amount. 
• To join the excursion, please fill in the Reservation Form, which you can find in the Main Menu. We will do our best to respond you at our earliest convenience!
• You can pay in cash or remit a bank transfer and we will issue to you a cash receipt or respectively an invoice according to VAT Law (art. 113 and art. 114)!

Important!

• In case of sudden change of the meteo conditions or other unforeseen situations, the guide may stop the group from the planned trek and to change the direction depending on the conditions. He proposes another trek, agreed with the tourists!
• In the case of dense fog or slippery terrain the guide may change the trek to ensure the health of the tourists!
• The treks are forbidden for tourists with heart diseases, problems with the legs and other dangerous contions for the mountains!
• If the group is more than 10 tourists there is a second guide, which doesn't change the price!
